UJ STUDENT HEALTH AND WELLNESS STUDENT GUIDE 35 Mandela Day Event The C-SHAW Peer educators formed part of the Mandela Day Celebration organised by UJ Community Engagement on 18 July. The hospital visits on Mandela Day were part of a larger initiative to lend a helping hand to the sick and most vulnerable members of our society. Global Student Wellbeing Summit The C-SHAW Peer Educators attended the Student Wellbeing Summit in Bloemfontein on 16 July, accompanied by two staff members acting as chaperones. The summit was designed to support students beyond academics by fostering growth in the Human Domain. The initiative recognises that success in both personal and professional life requires more than academic excellence; it demands emotional intelligence, resilience, and interpersonal skills. Peer Educators were trained to act confidently and compassionately in crises, providing care until professional help arrives. Their commitment to learning these vital skills reflects the heart of our campus community: one that is informed, prepared, and ready to support one another. It was sturdily accentuated that the responsibility to uphold student well-being does not rest with one department or individual alone; it is a shared commitment that must be embedded across all levels of institutional operations.
