2025 FADA Creative Milestones

45 There is music in the air… For their final Semester 1 project, second-year Interior Design students designed pavilions that could be installed in and around FADA to house small jazz performances by leading South African artists. The selected artists included Tumi Mogorosi, Sisonke Xonti, Thandi Ntuli, Gabi Motuba, and Kujenga. The students completed the work in groups and produced scaled models of the final proposals. Dr Nico Botes from the Department of Architecture at the University of Pretoria presented a public lecture titled ‘Road maps for Design Journeys’ to the group to aid conceptual development. The work highlighted the importance of understanding artistic intentions to create experiential spaces and conceptual designs. **At the end of August, UJ Arts & Culture hosted the Weekend of Jazz, where, to the delight of both, one of our students met Gabi Motuba in person!
