44 FADA Campus Clean-up, TD Marowa and SO Tshitshi (first-year interior design students), 2024. FADA Campus Clean-up The Interior Design Department (coordinated by Marisca Deminey), in collaboration with the FADA Mentorship Programme (coordinated by Tamara Francis), came together to host a FADA campus clean-up to enhance the power of the community and highlight the importance of caring for our environment. The event was launched in response to Earth Overshoot Day, which fell on 1 August 2024. This date indicates that we now need 1.75 planet Earths to keep up with us. This event highlights the issue with consumption patterns and the production of waste. Therefore, we came together to contribute to building a sustainable future, one small action at a time! More than 100 students attended this initiative. FADA Africa-by-Bus 2024 During the mid-year recess, a staff member and three students from Interior Design joined the FADA Africa-byBus trip to Zimbabwe. During the five-day trip, the group visited the Mapungubwe National Park, the Great Zimbabwe National Monument, and the University of Harare. This was a wonderful opportunity to see sites like the Mapungubwe Interpretation Centre by Peter Rich in person and to experience the unique spaces created by Southern African civilisations of the region. Students will present their findings to the second-year Interior Design group in the History and Theory module later in the year to share their experience of these cultural heritage sites with their peers.
