Research capacity was significantly strengthened through strategic international appointments: two new Distinguished Visiting Professors (bringing the total to three), one Visiting Professor, two Visiting Associate Professors, one Senior Research Associate, and three Research Associates. A new MoU was signed with the Maldives National University, and an existing MoU with the University of Prešov in Slovakia was renewed, both in collaboration with Prof Daniel Meyer from the School of Public Management, Governance and Public Policy. The Chair’s research leadership is underpinned by strong NRF ratings: Prof Kraus holds a B2 rating, Prof Nieuwenhuizen a C2 rating, and Profs Meyer and Schachtebeck both Y2 ratings. This combination of established and emerging scholars ensures academic credibility, continuity, and international competitiveness also seen in the extensive network of national and international collaborations. International partners include Kent State University (USA), Krakow University of Economics (Poland), AGH University of Science and Technology (Poland), UNIVERSITAET A new MoU was signed with the Maldives National University Prof Meyer’s inaugural address SIEGEN (Germany), IDRAC Business School (France), the University of Azad Jammu & Kashmir (Pakistan), and the Maldives National University, amongst others. National collaborators include colleagues from the University of Johannesburg, the IIE MSA, the University of Stellenbosch, and the North-West University, amongst others. These collaborations support comparative research, joint publications, co-supervision arrangements, and academic mobility programmes. Several visiting scholars and research associates publish under UJ affiliation, directly strengthening the Chair’s output and international profile. Prof Meyer’s inaugural address “Entrepreneurship, innovation, and inclusion: Advancing research for sustainable economic development,” was held in June 2025, and Prof Schachtebeck was promoted to full professor in May 2025.
