College of Business and Economics | Annual Report 2025

CBE RESEARCH HUBS Prof Natanya Meyer Interim Chairholder Prof Cecile Nieuwenhuizen Outgoing Chairholder 2025 was a landmark year for the DSI/NRF South African Research Chair in Entrepreneurship Education. The Chair exceeded its annual research output target, achieving a combined total of 24 accredited research output units, nearly three times the minimum target of eight (8) units. The Chair actively fosters an environment that supports both research excellence and high-quality teaching. Several workshops were hosted during the reporting period featuring local and international experts with a strong focus on digital enterprise and entrepreneurship, explicitly linking research to teaching and learning and strengthening the research–teaching nexus. Postgraduate students are integrated into active research projects, international collaborations, and publication pipelines, strengthening research capability, academic writing, and career readiness. Students participate in the Teaching Tomorrow’s Entrepreneurs: Integrating Digital Technologies and AI into Entrepreneurship Education workshop in September 2025. The VMS (Venture Mentorship Service) programme, modelled on the MIT VMS, provides structured mentorship to emerging entrepreneurs and is co-led by Prof Nieuwenhuizen through the UJ Technology Transfer Unit.
