59 UJ Art Gallery takes re/ connect/ing to the Vrystaat Kunstefees The UJ Art Gallery, in collaboration with MTN SA Foundation, presented re/ connect/ing at the 2024 Vrystaat Kunstefees from 2-6 July. Curated by Dineke Orton, this exhibition continued their collaborative journey from “Shifting Conversations” (2017), featuring works by Christo Coetzee, Gerard Bhengu, and Gabisile Nkosi. It explored South Africa’s cultural narratives and aimed to reconnect audiences with art in the digital age. Dance meets visual storytelling at the Vrystaat Kunstefees UJ Arts & Culture showcased WithOut Limits at the 2024 Vrystaat Kunstefees from 2-6 July. Directed by Fana Tshabalala, this dance production combined choreography with video mapping projection, exploring the conflict between rural roots and corporate life. The performance featured a collaborative team, including Pieter Jacobs, Karabo Mtshali, Jurgen Meekel, Oliver Hauser, Kuba Silkiewicz, and Nthabiseng Makone, merging dance with technology and prompting reflections on reality and imagination.
