Building Bridges, Building Momentum As the second cohort of UJ SJIP begins in mid-2025, momentum continues to build. Three outstanding students have already been selected for placements with our partner organisations. The programme’s immediate success has demonstrated its value to students and to the partner organisations. However, establishing sustainable funding remains a critical priority to ensure the programme’s long-term viability and potential expansion. Securing dedicated financial support would allow for increased stipends to ensure equitable access for students from all socioeconomic backgrounds, and potentially broaden the range of partner organisations. As we look toward the future, the UJ Social Justice Internship Programme represents a valuable contribution to UJ’s two-decade journey of innovative teaching and learning and social impact. By reimagining how legal education can meaningfully connect with community needs and social justice imperatives, the programme exemplifies UJ’s commitment to inspiring minds and shaping futures that contribute to a more just society. • Ms Zipozihle Zuba-Mpulu, a Managing Attorney at the UJ Law Clinic • Dr Sershiv Reddy, Senior Lecture, Department of Mercantile Law • Ms Sanele Ndlovu, Attorney, UJ Law Clinic • Dr Meghan Finn, Senior Lecturer, Department of Public Law Student interns, Pilot 2025 Cohort: Bheka Nkosi, Samkelo Mngadi, Raeesa Ebrahim Bridging Theory and Practice: The Social Justice Internship Programme • Present as two “stories of mentorship and transformation.” • Include portraits or candid images of supervisors/students in discussion. • Footer bridge text: As we pause to reflect, our journey arrives at its destination — a celebration of teaching excellence.
