Research Output 2025 The CBE continues to solidify its position as a research-intensive hub, characterised by international recognition, strategic alignment with the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR), and a commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The CBE’s output is anchored by a rigorous commitment to peerreviewed scholarship. The distribution of output types reflects both depth and academic diversity. In this regard, journal articles account for 74% of our research, indicating the primary vehicle for internationally recognised scholarship, followed by books and book chapters at 19%, demonstrating intellectual depth and comprehensive scholarship. Conference proceedings account for 7% of our research, reflecting active engagement with the global academic community. In terms of international benchmarking, the vast majority of CBE research is published in internationally indexed platforms, ensuring high visibility and citation potential. In this regard, 57% of our research is in Scopus listed journals followed by 18% in Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), 5% in the International Bibliography of the Social Sciences (IBSS) and other Web of Science (WoS), Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) account for 4%. The rest is made of books (3%), book chapters (5%) and conference proceedings (8%). This international footprint strengthens CBE’s credibility, attracts top-tier postgraduate talent, and fosters global strategic partnerships. The research output units in the scholarship of teaching and learning accounts are 9% of total research output units, while those in 4IR stands at 21%. Figure 2.
