I am very glad for the training that we have received – it helps us cut down a lot of queries from staff members. I also want to express my absolute gratitude to the PWG team for being patient with our often repetitive queries. The responses and attitude towards our queries ensures that we don’t feel afraid or get intimidated when we need to ask! The CAPQP team is helpful, understanding, creative, and assists the College without delay, understanding that we are very big college which leads to many challenges. They facilitate all our interactions with the DHET, CHE and SAQA when we ask and are committed to serving the academic project. CAPQP team “steered the JBS academic team through all the technical bridges necessary for fulfilment and approval via the University’s various governance structures. CAPQP adds an intellectual marshalling aspect and a technical support component to academic continuous improvement and quality enhancements to programmes.” CAPQP contributed to the development of several Short Learning Programmes (SLP) [offering] technical guidance and adding value through innovative ideas around how to better frame programmes to be studentfocused plus market relevant. The centralised assistance and service support provided by the DTE, in particular, the CAPQP, to the JBS, as a new stand-alone fledgling faculty within the UJ community, was invaluable. The Programme Working Group ensures that all external applications and internal amendments are quality checked prior to serving at the relevant structures. The checking process and subsequent discussion is very helpful, making approvals as smooth as possible CAPQP went well beyond [the] call of duty … all engagements were met with a human element of warmth and sincere concern for colleagues’ well-being and tasks at hand, setting the CAPQP apart as a division of UJ [with] its commitment to academic excellence, integrity and heart-felt collegiality.” Programme reviews are key to the ongoing relevance and quality of our curricula. The CAPQP team makes sure that the reviews are meaningful. By focusing on the programme’s achievements as well as on the improvements needed, CAPQPfacilitated workshops build quality capacity and raise awareness of programme management principles and practices. The collaborative and collegial process of programme review, which incorporates external industry and academic representatives, ensures that UJ’s curricula are relevant and up to date, which is so important in today’s ever-changing environment! 2022 ANNUAL REPORT: DIVISION FOR TEACHING EXCELLENCE 75
