14 UNIVERSITY OF JOHANNESBURG Mature age exemption Applying to study using a mature age exemption does not guarantee admission. Applicants must still meet the minimum entry requirements set by the university. Qualification limitations The Faculty of Law does not accept NCV, NASCA and ASC, and the GED (General Education Development) is not accepted by the university for selection or admission across all faculties. South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) International applicants are required to submit a South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) certificate of evaluation for all foreign qualifications. SAQA verifies the authenticity of the documents, confirms that the issuing institutions are accredited in their respective countries, and ensures that the qualifications form part of the official national qualification framework. Once verified, SAQA determines the appropriate placement of the qualification on the South African National Qualifications Framework (NQF) for admission purposes. Transfer applicants All applicants, including those transferring from other higher education institutions, must apply using UJ’s online application system. Selection for undergraduate programmes is based on meeting the minimum entry requirements based on final Grade 12 results as well as meeting faculty requirements based on the academic merit of the institution the applicant is transferring from. An official academic record and final school leaving results must be submitted for selection purposes. Previous studies must be declared upon application: a regardless of whether the application is in the same or in a different field of study; b regardless of whether the studies were cancelled prior to completion; and c should the applicant wish to carry over any credits. Two study choices Applicants applying for undergraduate (diplomas or degrees) or postgraduate (advance diplomas, postgraduate diplomas, honours, masters or PhD) studies are allowed only two academic application choices. The university will not make any amendments, modifications, or cancellations to academic application choices once the application is processed. APPLICATION PROCESS ONLINE APPLICATION Please note the following: No application fee will be charged for online and paper based applications. If you have previously applied and have a UJ student number, please call the UJ Call Centre (011 559 4555) to ensure that your cell number and email address are captured on our student database. This will ensure that you receive a PIN number to complete the online application process. An applicant must go to www.uj.ac.za/Apply and select 'Apply' to complete an application. PAPER APPLICATIONS Step 1: Select your qualification study choices 1 and 2. (Ensure youmeet the admission requirements as set out in this prospectus.) Step 2: Submit your application to any of UJ’s four campuses. Please allow for three weeks before checking on the status of your application. If your application meets the necessary requirements and there is space in your selected programme, you will be informed on whether your application has been successful or not.
