 The Geology honours students also tend to favour the seminar topics in the traditional geological fields, which suggests that their choice is based on the envisaged applicability to future work or a reluctance to step out of their comfort zone, rather than scientific curiosity. It is clear that greater exposure to research is needed, particularly with the requisite guidance and support. The seminars are a great start towards providing that exposure.
