42 FACULTY OF HUMANITIES ANNUAL REPORT 2021 papers read at the Feminist Interpretation Sessions of the International Society of Biblical Literature from 2018-2021. Since 2015, I am the leader and organiser of these sessions: Nortje-Meyer, Lilly (SJ) (ed.) 2021/22. Gender Matters II. Cambridge Scholars Publishing. In 2019 I was also invited by Prof Erik Eynikel (Universität Regensburg, Germany) to serve on the Redaction Committee of the Revision of the International Bible Commentary. This project will continue for five to seven years (2019-2026). Publications: We have agreed that all staff who has obtained their PhD should publish at least 2 accredited articles per year. This can be single or co-authored with staff or PG students. 11 publications have been submitted. 6 are still in the process to be published and might be submitted by the end of Jan 2022. MA & PhD; 4 Ms and 3 PhD students have submitted their theses. Another PhD may be able to submit in Jan 2022. Staff is committed to encouraging their PGs to complete their studies in the minimum time allocated. However, the pandemic brought challenges to the empirical research especially the interviews. PDRF: Dr. George Nche, has been awarded the Postdoctoral Fellows Research Excellence Award for 2021. He is an asset to the dept in terms of his research, contributions to discussions, and lecturing skills. I hope that Dr Favour Uroko, who has already an excellent publication record, will be accepted as PDRF in our dept. RA: Two publications have been submitted for publication. The outcomes are still awaiting. One RA is not active at this stage. Staff: Dr. Clementine Nishimwe has been permanently appointed as lecturer. Ms. Aaishah Lombard was appointed as AL for 5.5 months and all the staff agreed that she performed very well. We also had to appoint temporary staff to assist the Study of Islam with lecturing and supervising. Hopefully, there can be a permanent appointment in the near future. Prof Hennie Viviers retires at the end of 2021 after 34 years of employment. As a senior staff, his experience and leadership will be missed. Recently we celebrated his career with lunch and an engraved pen was handed to him as a remembrance of his time at the university, see pic. Looking ahead: With the retirement of Prof. Viviers at the end of 2021, the dept is one more senior staff lacking. This will have a significant impact on the research and especially the supervision of PGs. Hopefully, we will be able to make a senior appointment by the end of 2022 when I will also retire. Dr. Nshimwe’s appointment as L is welcomed, she will apply for SL during 2022. We are also looking forward to the extension of Ms. Aaishah Lombard as AL to assist Islam. We will continue to advertise Religion vigorously, especially to include the new UG curricula that will be implemented at the beginning of 2023. The new UG curricula lend itself to interdisciplinary collaborations and 4IR. In terms of PG programmes, I am concerned about the future of the Study of Islam, particularly because Dr Mathee is the only lecturer and is supported by temporary appointments of junior staff. We are still committed to continuing the webinars and will invite and include international speakers and presenters. This also includes a 3rd Interdisciplinary Gender Conference (18-19 August 2022) focusing on Children, for the Faculty of Humanities and other societies and organisations. The call for papers will go out soon. More RAs and PDRFs need to be appointed. Our current PDRF, Dr. George Nche has demonstrated his worth as an active publisher. We are in the process to apply for another PDRF Dr. Favour Uroko who has
