2025 FADA Creative Milestones

42 The African Institute of Interior Design Professions (IID) partnered with the University of Johannesburg’s Interior Design Department to host a series of guest talks and panel discussions at the UJ FADA auditorium on Friday 30 May 2024. The event was curated by Trevor Sibanda, an assistant lecturer in the Department of Interior Design, who brought together interior design students from both public and private institutions, including Tshwane University of Technology, Potchefstroom Academy, Greenside Design College, Vega School, and Inscape Pretoria. The event aimed to play a significant role in mentoring and supporting the ongoing development of students by exposing them to various opportunities available as they pursue their design careers. The event successfully established a platform for direct interaction between industry experts and interior design students. The talks presented by Marisca Deminey and Amanda Breytenbach (Department of Interior Design, UJ), Christopher Browne (Fox Brown Creative), Pia and Josh Findlay (Tandem Design Studio), and Neo Phage (Strawberry Jam Design) guided students on essential industry matters and innovations. Design talks on recent innovations in Building Information Modelling, hospitality design, design thinking in the built environment, and business operations in interior design were all discussed by industry experts on the day. Popup exhibitions by interior design suppliers, such as Sonae Arauco, Steibel Eltron, Trellidor, NMC, and Smartstone, were available, allowing students to engage with current technologies and industry professionals.
