VICE-CHANCELLOR MULTI-AWARD WINNER FOR TEACHING EXCELLENCE Prof Catherine Botha, Department of Philosophy, Faculty of Humanities at the University of Johannesburg Prof Catherine was the winner of the UJ Vice Chancellor’s Award for Best Young Teacher in 2014, and winner of the UJ Vice Chancellor’s Distinguished Award for Best Teacher in 2020, the only person to have won both awards. She was also a Top 5 finalist in the HERS – SA awards in 2023 – an award that is for excellence in teaching and learning in the Humanities; She was an Erasmus+ Teaching Mobility award winner in 2023. In addition, she was a recipient of an Advance HE Fellowship in 2024. She’s been invited to speak about her teaching and learning practices at a large number of conferences and workshops. Catherine is also a registered ballet teacher of the Royal Academy of Dance and presents free adult ballet classes at the UJ Arts Academy. And she is not only interested in training humans. She holds a CAP2 and trains her two dogs in agility, tracking and obedience. She’s also been privileged enough to clicker train cats, chickens and elephants.
