College of Business and Economics | Annual Report 2024 42 Graça Machel Trust through European Commission funding Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) Competition Policy and Power Research Fund through the Centre for Research on Multinational Corporations (SOMO – Netherlands) RESEARCH PROGRAMMES As a largely self-funded research centre, CCRED is proud of the long-term partnerships it has developed over the years which have been instrumental in enabling it to pursue its objective of producing high-quality and impactful research and to conduct training and capacity building on the African continent, in addition to ensuring its sustainability. The partnerships and projects highlighted below illustrate this: Industrial Development Think Tank (IDTT) & Trade and Industrial Policy Strategies (TIPS) funded by the South African Department of Trade Industry and Competition (DTIC): started in 2017 and ended in 2024.The total value of the overall project was R41,288,470.00. The Graça Machel Trust project on Barriers to Entry for Women Entrepreneurs in Food Markets, funded by the European Commission: 2024 – 2026 The total value of the project is R5,388,047. OXFAM South Africa study on Barriers to Entry and Participation by Women in Value Chains: 2022 – 2025. The project total value is R4,175,162.00. African Market Observatory, Value Chains and Food Systems: continued multiple projects. The total value of the programme in 2023- 2024 is R7,738,999.00 The Competition Commission of South Africa’s Investigator Development Programme (training for Commission staff); 2 research projects on Margin Data for Selected Food Value Chains & SMME Participation Tracking Data in Food Value Chains (2024 – 2026). The total value of the programme is R4,846,575.00. Poverty and Inequality in value chains and production networks (PIPS) research and conference offered in 2024 fully funded by Copenhagen Business School (CBS) in Denmark. Two special issues for high-ranking international journals are being produced from the conference proceedings. Project on a comparison of the market inquiries provision of competition authorities in South Africa, Kenya and Zambia, funding by the Centre for Research on Multinational Corporations (SOMO, Netherlands): 2024 - 2026 with the total value of R1million.
