MCOM IN COMPETITION AND ECONOMIC REGULATION The MCom in Competition and Economic Regulation was in its sixth year in 2023 and continued attracting attention from competition and regulatory institutions across the country and other African countries. In 2023, the programme had 11 candidates from countries such as Namibia and South Africa, including from competition authorities and regulated sectors. Key highlights on the MCom in 2023 include faster throughput of students regarding dissertation submissions. By October 2023, we submitted five dissertations, three completed comments from examiners, and two students graduated. One alumnus started her PhD in the competition field. We maintained a robust complement of around 12 lecturers comprising academics and industry experts. This year, in the Advanced module, we paired almost every regular lecturer with additional industry practitioners as guest lecturers to add valuable insights from the ground and cases. A student received a prize to present her dissertation at the Mauritius Annual Competition and Economic Regulation (ACER) conference in October 2023. Lastly, we successfully concluded the programme review process, which commenced in 2022, to assess the programme’s strengths and surface the weaknesses, gaps, and areas for improvement. The review process comprised three online workshops to evaluate different aspects of the programme, including programme quality (held on 28 September 2022), programme design (held on 29 November 2022) and programme assessment (held on 27 March 2023). These workshops provided rich insights that informed the self-evaluation report. The self-evaluation report further comprised information gathered from students through a questionnaire to gauge their experience of the programme. We submitted the self-evaluation report to an External Panel consisting of three external academics and a user representative for consideration at a workshop held on 7 September 2023. The External Panel review workshop provided input for improving the programme and ensuring that the qualification remains a high-quality offering relevant to the competition and economic regulation community, both academically and professionally. The Academic Planning and Quality Promotion Centre for Academic Planning and Quality Promotion in the Division for Teaching Excellence accepted the finalised External Panel review report. The report served for noting at the SEHDC. DISSEMINATION AND ENGAGEMENT CCRED continues to leverage dissemination and engagement opportunities as an essential area of policy outreach to ensure that the research findings and recommendations reach a broad audience 94
