College of Business and Economics | Annual Report 2023 25 PROGRAMME QUALIFICATION MIX The College of Business and Economics has a programme mix of various fields of specialisation that characterise its constituent schools and departments. It offers a comprehensive suite of accredited qualifications in disciplines related to business and economics across the NQF spectrum from Level 6 to 10. The CBE further provides continuing professional development, skills enhancement, and access to further studies through a range of continuing education programmes (CEPs), comprising whole, bridging, and short learning programmes (SLPs). There are 22 CEPs in the CBE that had 4IR components and the number of students who completed African Insights SLP was 13 245 in 2023. Moreover, 7 137 students complete an SLP on African Intelligence, whereas 262 did the foundational module on Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs). Finally, the CBE’s own enrichment programme to all UJ students that was launched by the School of Management is the Financial Literacy SLP, which was completed by 983 students. There have been shifts in various programmerelated areas, reflecting the CBE’s agility in responding to the dynamic world of economics and business especially in terms of developing Critical Thinking, Work-integrated Education and using Artificial Intelligence in some programmes. Another aspect that is considered is the accessibility for students who are unable to attend face- to-face lecturers. The CBE hosts six non-subsidised online programmes: Advanced Diplomas in Financial Markets, Logistics, People Performance Management, Transportation Management, a BCom (Accountancy) and a Bachelor (Human Resource Management). Online enrolments have grown from 2 463 students in 2020, to 2 260 students enrolled in all whole online programmes (subsidised and non-subsidised, including non-HEPSA) in 2023. Some key features of the CBE PQM for subsidised programmes are as follows: In 2023, the CBE presented 158 subsidised programmes compared to 138 in 2022. The programmes that were active in 2023 consisted of 54 at the UG level and 104 at the PG level. The UG portfolio comprised 15 diplomas, 17 advanced diplomas and 22 degrees. The PG portfolio comprised 22 honours degrees, 5 postgraduate diplomas, 52 master’s degrees (coursework and research) and 25 doctoral programmes. UJENIUS CBE’s participation in the UJenius Club remains a priority because the incentives and enrichment opportunities availed to these for top-performing students are commendable.
