28 Awards Prof. Maduku takes ‘best paper’ at the 2023 EMCB The 12th Emerging Markets Conference Board (EMCB) conference took place on October 30 and 31, 2023, hosted by the School of Management Sciences, Nelson Mandela University. Themed Setting the trend: Marketing lessons from emerging markets, the conference provided researchers with the opportunity to share their studies with international scholars, including the marketing legend Prof. Naresh Malhotra (part of the published list of the world’s top 2% most-cited researchers across all disciplines), who provided insights into the lessons learnt from emerging markets. A huge congratulations to Prof. Daniel Maduku, deputy head of research and postgraduate studies at the Department of Marketing Management, for being named the ‘best paper’ runner-up for his paper entitled Charting the path to online shopping success: Investigating consumers’ store choice, satisfaction and repurchase intentions in South Africa at the EMCB conference. A paper by Dr Isolde Ward, Senior Lecturer, now HoD at the Department of Marketing Management, was also among the finalists! Her paper is entitled Flow experience in advergaming: eWOM’s impact on brand attitude and purchase intention. The Department of Marketing Management are thrilled about these achievements, which support the department’s ranking as ‘Officially the most impactful marketing researchers in Africa’ (Scopus and Web of Science Data). Mr Ronny Mabokela awarded Ultimate Geekstar of the Year 2023 On September 29, 2023, Mr Ronny Mabokela, head of the Technopreneurship Centre (TPC), won the Ultimate Geekstar of the Year award by Geekulcha in proud collaboration with ITWeb and Brainstorm Magazine. He was also a finalist for the Future Leadership Award of the Year during the annual Geekulcha hackathon. This recognition of Mr Mabokela demonstrates his dedication to guiding and inspiring future tech leaders, showcasing the positive impact of educators and professionals in shaping the technology landscape. This recognition also highlights his significant contributions to the world of technology and to the South African geek culture. Congratulations, Mr Mabokela!
