25 Head of the Technopreneurship Centre invited to mentor tech students On September 16-17, 2023, Mr Ronny Mabokela, head of the Technopreneurship Centre, was invited to mentor students at the prestigious BCX Alibaba Cloud hackathon. This event, entitled AI for social good, brought tech enthusiasts together in Johannesburg and virtually. Mr Mabokela’s reputation for nurturing young talent made him the ideal mentor. His guidance proved invaluable as he shared his knowledge and experience with a group of enthusiastic students. Mobile app development expert at BRICS Skills Challenge Mr Mabokela was also invited to be the mobile app development expert at the BRICS Skills Challenge, which took place on September 12-15, 2023. This competition gathered youth from the BRICS nations to showcase solutions to global challenges. Hundreds of participants pitched their ideas in a ‘Lion’s den’ before expert judges. With his expertise, Mr Mabokela evaluated the innovative mobile apps presented by competitors, including a few UJ AIS students. The BRICS Future Skills Challenge was a celebration of youth, innovation, and the potential of future skills to transform the world. Mr Mabokela’s role highlighted the importance of nurturing young talent and guiding them toward solutions for pressing global problems. Generic Management Learnership programme certification Congratulations are in order to Ms Nomusa Mtshali, academic co-ordinator at the Department of Applied Information Systems, for having completed the Generic Management Learnership programme. The programme lasts for one year. She was awarded a certificate at a certification ceremony held on August 18, 2023 at the School of Tourism and Hospitality. IKM at UJ staff day When the University of Johannesburg celebrated its staff on September 29, 2023, members of the Department of Information and Knowledge Management (IKM) joined in the fun. Staff got to reconnect outside the office and to enjoy the festivities. Above all, the staff felt appreciated.
