3 Student News First intake of Master of Applied Data Science students welcomed The Centre for Applied Data Science (CADS) celebrated a significant milestone on 24 February 2023, when it warmly welcomed its inaugural cohort of students into the innovative Master of Applied Data Science (MADS) programme. The welcome session was led by Mr Siyabonga Mhlongo, Acting Head of the Centre for Applied Data Science; Prof. Hossana Twinomurinzi, Vice Dean: Research, Innovation and Internationalisation, College of Business and Economics; and Prof. Mercy Mpinganjira, Director: School of Consumer Intelligence and Information Systems. As part of the welcome session, the CADS organised an engaging evening that fostered interaction among the students. It was an opportunity for the students not only to familiarise themselves with the faculty members who are involved in the programme, but also to promote knowledge exchange and collaboration among their peers. The Master of Applied Data Science programme is designed to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge to thrive in the everevolving field of data science. The programme’s first cohort boasts a total of 40 students, each ready to embark on this exciting educational journey. In their first semester the students delved into various modules, including Competitive Intelligence, Marketing Analytics, and Data Exploration. CADS’ commitment to offering a cutting-edge educational experience, coupled with the enthusiasm and dedication of the first MADS cohort, sets the stage for a vibrant and successful programme that will contribute significantly to the field of data science.
