Marketing Master’s and doctorate colloquium The Master’s and doctoral colloquium of the Department of Marketing Management was hosted on Friday 5 May 2023 in the Nadine Gordimer Room of the UJ Library on the Kingsway campus. The colloquium is an annual event in the Department of Marketing Management, providing newly selected Master’s and doctoral candidates with an opportunity to present their research ideas to a panel of experts. Five Master’s and two doctoral degree candidates presented their proposals to a select panel of academics from three universities in South Africa who are highly regarded in the field of marketing management and marketing research, and who informed the new Master’s and doctoral students of the strengths and weaknesses in their respective proposals. The experts for 2023 were Dr Herman Boikanyo (University of Johannesburg). Prof. Rean Muller (North West University), Prof. Therese Roux (TUT), Prof. Chris Schachtebeck (University of Johannesburg), and Prof. Janine Krüger (Nelson Mandela University). The colloquium was well-attended by academics in the department and by colleagues from the School of Consumer Intelligence and Information Systems (SCIIS). In general, the students received valuable feedback from the external panel that they could use to improve the overall quality of their Master’s and doctoral proposals. The Master’s and doctoral office of the Department of Marketing is busy planning the 2024 colloquium, and is eager to welcome more colleagues and students from other departments in the SCiiS and the College of Business & Economics (CBE) to attend the presentations next year.
