21 Golf day, good day! As one of his mental health check activities, Mr Kagiso Mabe, lecturer in the Information and Knowledge Management Department, plays golf on weekends at Randpark Golf Club. On 5 August 2022, Mr Mabe took on the newbie golf competition and won it! He claims he won the competition for his son, who had been in hospital for a month after his birth. The fight he displayed on the course was a representation of his son’s fight in the hospital’s NICU. Busiest year for the head of the Technopreneurship Centre In 2022, Mr Ronny Mabokela, Head of the Centre Technopreneurship Centre (TPC), was invited to appear on numerous platforms to participate as a tech innovation judge and as a mentor. He was invited to judge tech innovative solutions nationally and internationally. These events were innovation hackathons such as the Centre for Public Service Innovation’s ITWeb security summit Hackathon (1-2 July 2022), the Rivonia Circle – Power to Act Hack (13 - 14 August 2022), the MTN App of the Year (17-18 September 2022), and the Global Healthcare Hackathon hosted by Hack for Earth Foundation and the Empire Partner Foundation. He also devoted his time to mentoring and coaching tech startups at the SAB Sharp Hackathon (29 July 22), the Imvelisi Just Hack (22-24 July 2022), the SATNAC cyber Hack (19-21 August 2022), the GirlCode Hackathon (6-7 August 2022), and the MTN Business Hackathon (2-4 September 2022). All these events aimed to accelerate skills development among the youth and to develop business startups that will boost the South African economy. Dr Beate Stiehler-Mulder at TEDxUniversity of Johannesburg Dr Beate Stiehler-Mulder, senior lecturer in the Department of Marketing Management, and Wholesale & Retail Leadership Chair: Gauteng, spoke at TEDxUniversity of Johannesburg on 25 August 2022. Dr Beate talked about how Your body is the greatest instrument you will ever own. She mentioned how physical and mental awareness grounds and reconnects us, and that Self-discipline does not means self-criticism. It was truly inspirational and motivational.
