CONCLUSION AND THE WAY FORWARD As the higher education environment continues to change at an everincreasing pace, the DTE has consciously worked to ensure that it keeps apace and abreast with new developments and regulatory requirements. The challenge is scarce fiscal resources, and the expansion of work has not led to an increase in staff, especially at senior levels. Staff resignations and retirements have been challenging and this continues to be an area of concern especially as the work undertaken by the DTE is highly specialised and given its nature needs to be acquired from years of experience. The future of higher education is nonetheless bound to be exciting and challenging. Our task is to stay ahead of the curve and ensure that the footprints of the DTE are visible in the corridors of the University, and especially at the coalface of teaching and learning. 2023 ANNUAL REPORT DIVISION FOR TEACHING EXCELLENCE 82
