2023 Annual Report | Division for Teaching Excellence

Leadership Footprint The DTE’s continued focus on leadership is evident in the achievements of its staff in this respect. In 2022, one of the Directors completed the UJ Women’s Leadership Development Programme, and in 2023, two staffmembers completed the UJ Emerging Leader - Leadership Development programme. An additional staffmember is registered for the UJ MPhil in Personal and Professional Leadership. Given that the Division’s activities are aimed at aligning the teaching and learning activities with the University and faculty strategies, the development of leadership capacity at all levels is important. To this end, sessions with each Centre focusing on the development of teamwork and a common vision were also held. Individual coaching sessions for each staffmember took place across the year, with additional sessions provided where requested. Given that the Division aligns its activities across the board with the National Framework for Enhancing Academics as University Teachers, it is essential that all aspects of its work support the academic endeavour in all its permutations. Our staffworked on the Strategic Plan 2025 and participated actively in the various task teams set up to identify future priorities. We contributed to the Institutional Transformation Plan with a special focus on Teaching and Learning as well as aspects of digital education.
