CENTRE FOR ACADEMIC PLANNING AND QUALITY PROMOTION (CAPQP) The Centre for Academic Planning and Quality Promotion (CAPQP) is a small, dynamic teamof specialists who work to ensure that the University’s programmes are accredited and that remain high quality, relevant programmes which address the needs of students and other stakeholders. In addition, CAPQP staff interact with academic and academic support staff to provide the knowledge needed to design and accredit new programmes, to review and upgrade existing programmes, and to work in the context of the University’s internal quality assurance system. UJ’s internal quality assurance system is regularly reviewed tomake certain that it aligns to the external quality assurance systemdefined by the Council on Higher Education. The CAPQP staff supports academics and faculty staff engaging with professional body approval processes and provides regular advice on criterion-referenced and evidence –led quality systems. CAPQP’s staff is committed to enacting the University’s dedication to keeping the student at the centre of curriculum, by supporting academic activities designed to deliver excellent programmes of learning. All CAPQP activities reiterate the message that minimum compliance is insufficient. Provisioning higher education that goes beyond compliance is animated by the sharing of knowledge, active collaboration between academics and quality staff, resulting in the integration of quality considerations into all academic and support activities. In this way, CAPQP contributes to the transformation of the University through programme quality processes which place academics at the centre. 2023 ANNUAL REPORT DIVISION FOR TEACHING EXCELLENCE 65
