TABLE 10: LIST OF TIF PROJECTS FUNDED IN 2023 # Faculty Project Name & Description Amount Awarded 1 CBE Master Assessment Scheduling System (MASS): The project seeks to develop a Master Assessment Scheduling System (MASS) that utilises smart and intelligent technologies to simplify the process of scheduling student module assessments, improving their preparation and performance. MASS platform aims to ensure that lecturers plan the semester assessments adequately as well as to prevent students from being overloaded with numerous assessments from various modules, which can create unnecessary pressure and cause them to lose focus on their academic activities. R20 000,00 2 EDU Using virtual avatars to support undergraduate Physical Sciences studentteachers in preparing for the lectures and stimulate discussions during face-toface interactions - a flipped-classroom approach: The proposed project introduces the use of virtual avatars to help Physical Sciences student-teachers prepare better for face-to-face lecture sessions and gain a better understanding of key discussion points prior to the lecture. An example of such a virtual avatar is included in the accompanying video. The project aims to test the effectiveness of such digital avatars as agents in pre-class preparation, overcoming the limited lecture time of 45 minutes, by allowing lecturers to facilitate in-depth discussions rather than just covering theoretical concepts. R50 000,00 3 EDU Online, Blended and Remote Learning, Decolonising of the curriculum and Learning Skills Development The project is aimed at materials development to support practical skills development of Masters Educational Psychology (MEd Psych) students in the areas of therapy, assessment, professional development as well as careers and learning support. This project aims to develop videos of best practice examples for the purposes of skill development within the MEd Psych program. Videos will reflect South African content and contexts to assist in the move away from purely Eurocentric practice examples that are available widely currently. This means the content underrepresents and undervalues the perspectives, experiences, epistemologies of those who do not fit into these mainstream categories” (Shay 2016). It is envisaged that the outcome of the project will ensure a real and effective move towards actualising decolonisation of psychological theory and practices. R20 000,00 4 FADA Bridging the gap between Manufacturing Industry and the Lecturing Studios: Increased effectiveness of experiential learning within the lecturing environment with developed small-scale manufacturing machines and tools This project aims to see the fabrication of a collection of small-scale hand operated press machines, designed by ID HoDMartin Bolton, that is able to be used for a collection of applications in both the lecturing room environment, as well as for small-scale manufacture. This effectively replicates large industry processes within the following industries (but on a countertop, small-scale machine). R15 000,00 2023 ANNUAL REPORT DIVISION FOR TEACHING EXCELLENCE 46
