Feedback on the Programme Review Process and Support from CAPQP Faculty of Law The guidance and information provided thus far have been informative and have provided much support in the review process of the Paralegal Course. Overall, we have had a very positive experience with the CAPQP team, especially with regards to your assistance with programme review, planning, mentorship and advice. With feedback received from the PWG, Odwa has been extremely patient and has provided good, clear feedback regarding comments raised on our PWG submission. Both you and Odwa have made the time to engage with the Law: CEP on an ongoing basis telephonically and on Teams. Fifi, has also assisted with locating older records and providing feedback to us when locating documents. As usual, we are very appreciative of the consistent, excellent ongoing support we get from the CAPQP team. College of Business and Economics I have had the opportunity to experience the programme review process as a participant (a programme coordinator) and as a facilitator. The revised programme review process (compared to the previous process) offers the programme coordinator and the lecturers the opportunity to engage deeply with panel members on specific areas that they require guidance on. This leads to realistic and beneficial amendments to the programme because the process is no longer a “tickbox” exercise. Throughout the process, the CAPQP team provide continual support and actively participate in the process – for example, in my programme’s review, in one of the workshops, we identified an issue of over-assessment. By having the CAPQP team in the workshop, we developed the idea of a practical integrated assessment offered across three different modules. This has been running for the past four years and the students and our industry partners have commended this innovative approach to assessment. Inspired by this, we have also expanded the integrated assessment to other qualifications and for the first time, we are attempting an integrated assessment across two different subjects from two different departments. The workshops, the review process, the encouragement from the CAPQP team for open conversations and offering support where needed allow for a conducive process to a programme review, leading to significant changes that are beneficial to all key stakeholders. The review process is well-structured, with each step well explained and outlined. It was a pleasure to work with the team. The support from CAPQP was continuous during the programme review I had. Gloria, Mthu and Odwa were involved in every step and were always willing to assist/explain/ support. The support also extended beyond a mere back-and-forth emailing, with the team also adequately prepping you before each workshop in the review process. My consultations with the CAPQP team were always fruitful and productive. As a new fulltime employee at UJ and qualification leader, I did not feel out of depth or lost for one moment during the review process. I am not able to give full details here, but from my interaction with your office the process is very organised and articulate. CAPQP staff’s assistance resulted in a well-rounded and comprehensive document for the external panel. The final document (SER) and evidence presented an explicit picture of all three Masters qualifications with the help of CAPQP staff I really thank the team for assisting us – it took so much pressure from us and compared to previous reviews – this was actually a pleasure to prepare and to have the external panel with us. It felt like a collegial discussion with good recommendation on how we can improve and align our resources. It resulted in a fresh opinion from people from outside. 2022 ANNUAL REPORT: DIVISION FOR TEACHING EXCELLENCE 76
