Head of Department (HoD) Induction Workshop and Follow-Up Workshops Heads of Departments play crucial roles in ensuring that the UJ achieves excellence in all areas including teaching and learning, research and community engagement amongst others. This leadership role can be very challenging. CASD supports HODs in this role through the HOD Induction and follow-up workshops. The workshops are open to all HODs who wish to develop their academic leadership skills. The aims of the workshop are to: • provide a broad overview of the role of the HOD within the department and UJ. • discuss how to lead teaching and learning with AI in academic departments. • explain how to lead research and innovation in academic departments. The HOD induction workshop session was held in semester 1, on 2 and 4 March 2022. 25 participants attended the session on the 2nd, and 16 attended the session on the 4th. 3 follow-up workshops were conducted, addressing the following: Managing Department Finances, Human Capital Matters, and the importance of SLPs. During the second semester workshop topics addressed the following: Managing Departmental Finances, and the significance of SLPs.
