Academic progression In terms of PhD completion, the data shows that 55 AAMP participants have been able to complete and were awarded their doctorates between 2019 and 2022; sixteen in 2019, nineteen in 2020, five in 2021 and fifteen in 2022. In September 2022, the Division issued a check-in questionnaire to all AAMP level 1 participants to assess progress made towards completing their PhDs: 155 participants responded to the questionnaire. It was clear from the responses that most participants have made significant progress in their research, with over 35 participants indicating their estimated completion date as 2022 while eight had submitted their theses for examination. Below is a summary of the responses received for the questionnaire. AAMP Level 1 feedback on PhD Progress • “I have submitted the thesis for examination.” • “Proposal is complete. I did a presentation to the department on 29 August, and it was successful. • “I have recently completed the PhD, awaiting graduation.” • “I am about 6 months to completion - chapter drafts halfway through.” • “Mid-way with data collection and partial data analysis done on the phases of data collection that has been completed already. Currently busy with Delphi method and Injury surveillance.” • “I have completed three chapters of my thesis.” • “I am conducting data analysis and writing first draft of the thesis.” • “My dissertation is complete and is currently being examined.” • “I have submitted my PhD proposal to my supervisor. I am also collecting literature while designing my model.” • “I am in the final stages of the thesis write-up.” • “I have completed my qualification in the current year 2022.” • “I am consolidating all drafts into a first draft of the final document.” • “My thesis is in its final stages; it is due for submission by 31 October 2022.” • Completed Research Methods module. Feedback from the examiners was forwarded to the supervisors in July 2022. The recommendations were for substantive corrections to be implemented and to resubmit for re-examination in October 2022.
