On 15 March 2022, the Division held a meeting with the Vice-Deans to discuss AAMP and its offerings. The Division further issued a benchmark questionnaire in March/April 2022 to evaluate the programme. The following were the objectives: • To determine the expectations of the AAMP • To obtain feedback on the AAMP • Record and track progress on the AAMP over time for planning and mentoring A total of 371 participants on the AAMP completed the questionnaire. The report demonstrated that the programme remains popular among UJ academics and that most participants have derived value from being part of the programme. The data from the questionnaire indicates that most AAMP participants have been part of the programme since its inception in 2015 and have benefited significantly from mentoring, funding for different categories etc. Participants who joined the AAMP in 2022 were not asked about their progression and are therefore not included in the analysis below. Participants who have been with the programme the longest have made significant progress in most aspects investigated (AAMP Level, Promotion, Qualification, and NRF Rating). Responses also indicated the following: 96% of participants would recommend the AAMP to a colleague; Participants who have been in AAMP since its inception were most likely to recommend the programme; Only 4% of participants indicated that would not recommend the AAMP; Most participants (85%) indicated that the AAMP has benefitted them academically and/or professionally. However, that leaves 15% of participants who indicated that they have not fully utilised the programme. The recommendations and needs identified in the questionnaire informed the review and reconfiguration of the AAMP activities. Highlights and potential impact of the programme Participation in the AAMP continued to increase throughout the year with an additional 101 new academics joining the AAMP programme in 2022, increasing the total number of AAMP members to 536. This is the most significant growth in terms of new members the programme has witnessed. • Level 1: participation increased from 143 (2019) à 226 (2022). • Level 2: participation increased from 125 (2019) à 227 (2022). • Level 3: participation increased from 68 (2019) à 86 (2022). A total of 371 participants on the AAMP completed the questionnaire 2022 ANNUAL REPORT: DIVISION FOR TEACHING EXCELLENCE 38
