[ 26 ] [ UJ TRANSFORMATION UNIT n APRIL 2024 ] GBV and LGBTQIA+ e-Learning Module The University launched the GBV and LGBTQIA+ e-Learning Module in May 2023. After the institutional migration from Blackboard to Moodle, UJ staff and students could access the modules through uLink, with the indicated module codes (Gender-Based Violence – 240CM 036 GBV) and (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Questioning, Intersex and Asexual – 240CM 239 LGBTQIA+). A circular was circulated in May 2023 and November 2023. In 2024, the modules will be rolled out to different UJ divisions. Questions and answers presented at the end of each study unit within the modules were refined and updated in November 2023 to generate more understanding and knowledge. UJ Incident Reporting System The Transformation Office, together with the Technopreneurship Centre, has developed a UJ-based GBV reporting tool to replace the outsourced GBV reporting tool used in the previous years. The GBV reporting tool is still the same effective platform, allowing students and staff to report cases of bullying, harassment, sexual harassment and rape and do so, anonymously. Through the platform, cases can be captured and investigated. The platform will go live early 2024. UJ Diversity and Inclusivity/Queer Dictionary South African indigenous languages often have limited gender and sexuality terminology, thus perpetuating hate and unfair discrimination by using derogatory words such as faggot and sisi-bhuti to define diverse gender orientations. Following the launch of the UJ Queer Dictionary at the APK Library (Nadine Gordimer Auditorium) on 16 September 2022, a call to submit empowering words to replace the existing derogatory and belittling words used to address queer individuals will be published in 2024. The initiative aims to further promote UJ’s commitment to creating a safe space and guard against all forms of discrimination against staff and students based on their gender. GBV and LGBTQIA+ Module Circular Report Bullying, Discrimination, Harassment, Sexual Harassment and Rape. UJ launches it’s Gender-Based Violence Online Reporting System. With the option to remain annonymous, complete the prompted questions to avoid unnecessary delays. Available https://docs.google.com/forms/d/160z2r6GyQDbf13b7uKF4bQBWQEXaCMuW7ccrKyj1lTA/edit.
