[ 14 ] Institutionalising Ethics The University introduced the online ethics awareness training programme in May 2022, which was to be completed by all employees on LMS Blackboard. For the year under review, concerted strides were made to conduct ethics awareness sessions with various University stakeholder groups to practically, and at an institutional level, ensure adherence to ethical standards. While 10 482 training hits have been recorded on LMS to date, there is still a significant number of staff members who have not completed all three ethics awareness modules. Therefore, ELG members have been encouraged to remind their staff to complete the training. Embedding an Ethical Culture The Transformation Unit has in the recent past years been coordinating various activities and initiatives with the intention to entrench ethics within UJ. While these interventions were mainly focused on articulating a strategy for ethics, raising levels of communication and awareness, the implementation of the UJ ethics management framework is the current mandate for the newly appointed ethics officer. Underpinning the value of “Ethical Foundation” lies the commitment to nurture and actively promote an ethos of honesty, transparency, accountability and fairness in the institution. Based on this commitment, UJ is raising its level of ethics performance through a review of monitoring controls and compliance and creating awareness to positively change mindsets and doing the right thing.
